Fractional COO for small and mid-sized organizations

Sound familiar?
  • You work in the business most days, and rarely on it.
  • The plan for next year lives in your head.
  • Good people, but no one owns how it all fits together.
  • You're not sure what the next step is, and growth has stalled.

Senior operating leadership, part-time. The planning and accountability of a COO without a full-time hire.

What a fractional COO is

A fractional COO is an experienced operating leader who works with your organization part-time. You get the planning, accountability and day-to-day direction of a COO without a full-time executive hire.

It works on its own. You don't need the 2027 plan first.

What I handle

  • Planning and prioritiesTurning a long list of good ideas into the few things the team commits to.
  • Team rhythm and accountabilityClear owners and follow-through, so work doesn't wait on you.
  • Financial oversightBudgets and dashboards that show where things stand. I'm a CPA by training, with years in healthcare finance.
  • Coaching for you as the leaderA standing conversation with someone who will tell you the truth.

Fractional fits when you need senior leadership but not forty hours a week. I'll tell you which fits, even if it isn't me.

A full-time hire fits when the work is steady and full-time, and you can fund the role. Some organizations start with fractional support and hire full-time later.

Common questions

What does a fractional COO do?

A fractional COO leads the operating side of your business part-time: planning, priorities, team accountability and financial oversight. You get a senior partner who works alongside your team.

Who hires a fractional COO?

Owners, founders and executives of small and mid-sized organizations who have a strong team but no one with the time to run the whole picture. It often fits when the leader is still working in the business every day.

How is this different from a consultant or a coach?

A consultant often delivers a report and leaves. I work alongside your team and stay with the plan. Coaching is part of the work, aimed at you as the leader.

Do I have to do the 2027 plan too?

No. They're two separate services. Fractional COO support works without the plan, with a three-month commitment, and the plan works without fractional support.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the size of your team and the scope of the work. I share a number after a first conversation, once I understand what you need.

How soon can we start?

When you're ready. It doesn't have to be January.

Where do you work?

I'm based in Franklin, Tennessee, and I can help teams regardless of location.
